PRNC Clears Dead Trees Along Tampa
Share/Save

The Porter Ranch Beautification Committee completed a big project this summer to remove dead trees and brush resulting from the 2008 Sesnon Fire. The fire swept down Limekiln Canyon and jumped Tampa to burn trees along the east side of Tampa at the Wilbur Tampa Park. Some of the trees rebounded but many did not and the dead trunks have been an eyesore and a fire danger.

The PRNC was glad to fund this important beautification project with $10,000 for crews to work for three days to clear trees and brush. Work was completed on the north end of Limekiln, heading down from Sesnon, along the trail and Tampa. Dead trees were also cleared from the Limekiln Canyon area near Rinaldi and the west side of the Wilbur Tampa Park along Tampa.

The Beautification Committee worked with Recreation and Parks and other departments in the time consuming effort to secure permits to complete this work. This project was a follow on project to our effort in 2018 to remove 22 dead trees and stumps as well as removing dead wood on another 35 diseased and dying trees along Tampa, Rinaldi, and Porter Valley Drive. Read about the 2018 Tree Project.

Having completed these two major projects, the Beautification Committee is now venturing on to look at adding art work to utility boxes in Porter Ranch. Contact the Chair, JasonHector [at] PRNC.org (Jason Hector), to find out how to get involved.

The Porter Ranch Neighborhood Council is an organization that is officially certified by the City of Los Angeles to increase our influence with City lawmakers and departments to improve our community.

The PRNC came about as a result of Los Angeles City Charter Reform and interested stakeholders in our community. The Board is elected by stakeholders and holds monthly meetings, usually on the first Wednesday of the month. The agenda is emailed to those who subscribe (see the green box in the upper corner), on our website here and posted at 11280 Corbin Avenue, Northridge, CA 91326 on a bulletin board facing Corbin street.

The Board is comprised of volunteers who want to help you make Porter Ranch a better place to live, work and grow. We can't do it for you, but we can do it with you.
