Welcome To Porter Ranch!

Porter Ranch has just joined the likes of Granada Hills, Valley Village and Thai Town with the installation of official City of Los Angeles community signs at key entrance points to the community. Residents of Porter Ranch can be proud that their community is officially recognized.

City Archives show references to Porter Ranch dating back to 1963.  The City Clerk’s office noted that as of the 2010 census, there were over 8,000 properties with 21,000 people. And in 2008 the 91326 zip code was officially designated as Porter Ranch. The City designation coupled with the zip code complete the community identity.

This was no small task. Blue community signs are not just erected willy-nilly. Dick Rippey, Porter Ranch Neighborhood Council Board Member, spearheaded the effort to collect 540 signatures from the residents of Porter Ranch to support the name designation. The petition application was submitted to the City of Los Angeles in May 2011 and Council File 11-0983 was opened. The request followed the normal course of approval by being referred to a committee. If the application was not approved within two years of submission, it would die. The Porter Ranch Neighborhood Council submitted a Community Impact Statement in support of the application November 2012 and then worked with Councilmember Englander’s office to seek approval before the two year deadline. It was finally approved March 5 and signs were erected in November.

On Monday, November 18, members of the Porter Ranch Neighborhood Council celebrated with the community and Councilmember Mitchell Englander at the official sign unveiling. The PRNC thanks Dick Rippey for carrying the ball over the line on this monumental undertaking.

The Porter Ranch Neighborhood Council is an organization that is officially certified by the City of Los Angeles to increase our influence with City lawmakers and departments to improve our community.

The PRNC came about as a result of Los Angeles City Charter Reform and interested stakeholders in our community. The Board is elected by stakeholders and holds monthly meetings, usually on the first Wednesday of the month. The agenda is emailed to those who subscribe (see the green box in the upper corner), on our website here and posted at 11280 Corbin Avenue, Northridge, CA 91326 on a bulletin board facing Corbin street.

The Board is comprised of volunteers who want to help you make Porter Ranch a better place to live, work and grow. We can't do it for you, but we can do it with you.
