Mark Benthien is the Director of Communication, Education and Outreach for the Southern California Earthquake Center at the University of Southern California. This center was established in 1991 for the purpose of gathering new information about earthquakes in southern Calif. and to communicate an understanding of this phenomena to the general public in order to increase awareness, reduce economic losses and save lives.
