The Daily News reported on October 31, 2011, that the Sepulveda VA project would move forward in spite of community opposition. "Construction is set for early 2012," said Wileen Hernandez, a spokeswoman for the Veterans Affairs of Greater Los Angeles, which manages the 160-acre facility in North Hills. "This is in line with our Secretary of Veterans Affairs Eric Shinseki, who said he wants to end homelessness among veterans by 2015." Read entire Daily News article.

New Directions, an organization that provides comprehensive services to Veterans in L.A. County, has proposed to convert seven acres and two empty buildings on the 160- acre Veteran's Administration facility in North Hills into 147 housing units for homeless and disabled veterans.

The PRNC heard presentations by various groups in support of and opposed to the project in November 2009, January 2010, and in February 2010, when  they ultimately passed a motion that the PRNC draft a letter to the VA asking the VA to rescind the Enhanced Use Leases with New Directions, et al and recommission Buildings 4 and 5 for medical purposes at the 160-acre Veteran's Administration facility in North Hills.
