Remaking Reseda Blvd

Update (above) from April 13, Great Streets Install

March 24

Reseda Blvd is in the process of being repaved and restriped. At the Great Streets Open House held at the Northridge Library on March 23, innovative designs were on display. The repaving plan calls for preserving the existing two lanes of traffic in each direction. Bike lanes will be added.

What is completely new is that street parking will no longer be next to the curb. Bike lanes will be next to the curb. A buffer will be next to the bike lane, then the parking, then the driving lanes. Between the parking and the buffer, bicyclists should be much safer. The buffer will be delineated by paint and by vertical barriers, which will be spaced to not impede access to cars.

The part of Reseda affected by this phase of the Great Streets initiative is from Plummer to Parthenia. There will also be some innovative benches and trash cans that will be installed as part of a short term creative placemaking project that reimagines sidewalks and highlights local businesses on Reseda between Nordhoff and Gresham St.

The next Reseda Blvd Great Streets Workshop will be on Saturday, April 11, 10am-1pm. Councilmember Englander will be on hand to hear your feedback about the project. You will have the opportunity to help plan trees along Reseda at 10am, experience the new floor patterns and custom designed furniture, and eat delicious BBQ lunch provided at noon by Dickey’s BBQ.

This event will be held at Benjamin Moore Catalina Paints at 8814 Reseda Blvd. Questions: helen [at] mas.la or 323-244-3630.
