Porter Ranch Crime Update

February 8, 2012

Dear neighborhood watch members;

Just a note to inform you we are making great progress at the present time in our efforts to reduce the number of residential burglaries in the area North of Rinaldi.

This area is distinguished by two separate sectors being the one between Tampa and Reseda (Porter Ranch sector) and the one between Aliso Canyon and Balboa (Granada Hills sector).

As a result of resources being deployed in these areas we only had one residential burglary during the past 7 days, and it occurred in the Granada Hills sector.

This is a tremendous decrease in crime when we compare it to just a few weeks ago when at times we were getting hit with several burglaries a day.

This recent spike has been among the worst concentration of residential burglaries in the Porter Ranch area I've seen during my 20 years here at Devonshire, comparable only to the activity I saw during the summer months of 2003/2005.

I attribute the current decrease to the great neighborhood watch participation we have been getting during the past month. This is a credit to you. I also attribute it to the numerous arrests we have made in the past 10 days alone in both these sectors. And there is no doubt in my mind the word is getting out.

Please continue to practice your high level of awareness and vigilance. Continue to report prowlers to our direct dispatch (1-877-275-5273) and never, ever, let your guard down.

Feel free to contact me if you wish to establish a neighborhood watch group in your area. I've had many requests in the past month alone and have several calendared for this month.

And please remember, we will hold our monthly neighborhood watch meeting in just 10 days from today.

It will be on Thursday February 16 at 7PM at Saint Euphrasia Church, 11767 Shoshone Avenue.

I will purposely not have any guest speakers so we may dedicate the entire hour talking about the burglaries and personal safety. It will be a candid two way conversation and I will tell you exactly how I see the crime picture in our neighborhood.

Please do make an effort to attend if you can. You will be glad you did.

Best regards - SLO Dario Del Core

The Porter Ranch Neighborhood Council is an organization that is officially certified by the City of Los Angeles to increase our influence with City lawmakers and departments to improve our community.

The PRNC came about as a result of Los Angeles City Charter Reform and interested stakeholders in our community. The Board is elected by stakeholders and holds monthly meetings, usually on the first Wednesday of the month. The agenda is emailed to those who subscribe (see the green box in the upper corner), on our website here and posted at 11280 Corbin Avenue, Northridge, CA 91326 on a bulletin board facing Corbin street.

The Board is comprised of volunteers who want to help you make Porter Ranch a better place to live, work and grow. We can't do it for you, but we can do it with you.
