PRNC Vice President Susan Gorman-Chang and Board Member Jason Hector were honored to represent the Council at the recent Oak Tree Dedication Ceremony at the Oakridge Estate on June 21, 2018.
The Oakridge Estate is the historic residence of actress Barbara Stanwyck located near the southeast corner of Reseda and Devonshire. The house was built in 1937 and designed by architect Paul Williams and over the years the 130 acres also served as a thoroughbred horse ranch.
Today, the property belongs to the City and the support organization, the Friends of Oakridge is collaborating with the City to restore the house and convert the grounds into a park. Their mission is "in participation with the Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks, to restore the unique historical significance of The Oakridge Estate through preservation, development, maintenance, education and promotion." As part of the landscaping effort, the PRNC agreed to join other Neighborhood Councils to plant new oak trees with a Neighborhood Purposes Grant of $1,000.
Recently the longtime President of the Friends of Oakridge, Steve Harris, passed away and the Friends of Oakridge held the Oak Tree Dedication Ceremony to honor his memory.
