PRNC Board Members Cheri Derohanian and Armando Nunez II celebrated the North Valley Family YMCA's 70 Anniversary October 1 with Councilmember Mitchell Englander, Executive Director Jane Stanton and members of the community.
We like to think of it as the Porter Ranch Y, but as the speakers told of their involvement at the Y starting in San Fernando in the 40s, the long history of our Y serving the North Valley became apparent. After mingling and enjoying appetizers and desserts, the program began with comments by Councilmember Englander speaking as a dad on how he had made great memories with his daughters through the Y programs. Representatives from various elected officials presented commendations to the Y for the many years of service. Jane Stanton explained that the Y enabled friends to get together because, "You can never have too many friends; and friends are the key to everything."
Y Board Chairs traced the history of the North Valley Family Y from two lots in San Fernando to the Pico Adobe in the 60s, a modern facility in Mission Hills in the 70s to its final location in Porter Ranch. The Y recently completed part of a multi-project campaign to build a warm water pool. The next part of the campaign will involve more parking. Stay tuned!
