The first Community Emergency Response Team Training class held in our own Vineyards Community Room recently concluded with more than 25 people completing the 7 week course preparing them to respond to a disaster in our community. The Porter Ranch Neighborhood Council partnered with the Southern California Preparedness Foundation by providing $2,000 in funding for the CERT backpacks and supplies. PRNC President Gabriel Khanlian and Board Member Hilda Sarkisyan were among the graduates. "I highly recommend taking the CERT class and learning how to help your community in a disaster, when few other resources will be available. Be prepared!" said Khanlian.
Firefighter Instructor Ted Debbs led the class series and featured LAPD Senior Lead Officer John Parker In presenting class 7, focused on Terrorism and CERT.
Battalion Coordinators Pat Hall, Glenn Dollar and Tom Wirth provided detailed learning opportunities beyond the initial class series. Monthly Battalion meetings will be held soon at the same class location.
These meetings are open to everybody, CERT trained or not, with the focus on getting as many folks as possible knowledgeable about how to become self-reliant and able to help others.
