The newly reconstituted Porter Ranch Neighborhood Council Education & Schools Committee hosted a Teacher Appreciation Lunch at the Porter Ranch Community School at the end of the semester on June 10, 2019. Teachers were able to take a break from year end classroom clean up activities and enjoy a delicious lunch of Chinese food accompanied by music from a live band, The Ka Band, provided by the PRNC. We also thanked each teacher for their service with a small flower bouquet.
PRNC Schools & Education Committee Chair Mihran Kalaydjian thanked teachers for creating an "Inspiring and vibrant school in our community. Your hard work should be appreciated!"
"PRCS is thankful for our partnership with the Porter Ranch Neighborhood Council and looks forward to working with you," shared Principal Mary Melvin. She gave us an update that the school, now at the seven year mark, has about 1,200 students. The Dual Language Immersion Program in Korean has been growing successfully through the grades and has now reached the Middle School. Next year students will participate in the program in sixth grade, which will consist of completing and ancient cultures class in English and Korean.
LAUSD School Board Member Scott Schmerelson was also on hand to thank teachers, "Nobody does their end of year like Porter Ranch! We have been pushing for schools to be the center of the community and you are. I am so proud of you."
PRNC Members Mihran Kalaydjian, Brandii Grace, Jason Hector, Lori Choi and Gabriel Khanlian were all present and active in making this event a success.
The PRNC is planning a similar recognition event at Castlebay Lane Charter Elementary in the fall along with other activities to engage with schools and families. The Education & Schools Committee Chair Mihran Kalaydjian and members Brandii Grace, Jason Hector, Linda Gregorian and Lori Kalman invite you to come to their committee meetings to get involved and help our schools.
