A new park is planned for 50 acres of Porter Ranch just south of the new Glen development near Mason and Sesnon. The park will be accessible predominately from Mason. The western portion of the park will be the “active park” where people can use play equipment, enjoy a concert in the park or attend a farmers market. The eastern portion will be a “passive park” open for hiking with great views. Along the north end of the park will be an access road connecting Mason and Porter Ranch Drive. A landscape buffer will help separate the access road from the Glen and Villagio developments.
Funding for the park is being provided by Toll Brothers who has the option of paying the City past due Quimby fees or developing the park themselves. Having Toll develop the park with City approval will allow for many more features to be included because of their lower cost of construction.
Councilmember Mitchell Englander is enthusiastic about developing a new park in Porter Ranch and says everything is on the table for consideration, except organized sports, which tends to take over parks. Some of the possible ideas include play and climbing equipment targeted at different ages, a performance pavilion, farmers market covered sales areas, tennis courts, pickle ball courts, basketball courts, hiking trails with benches, shade trees along the trail, self-locking public bathrooms open only during park hours. The idea is for the park to have something for people of all ages.
In community meetings about the new park, one of the first concerns was adequate parking. Attendees were assured that there would be sufficient parking at Mason and along the access road for park users. The access road could be configured to prevent overnight parking and car racing.
Englander plans to gather plenty of community input and consider all options before construction. You are invited to view inspirational boards and complete a survey about what you would like to see included in the park. Take this opportunity to make your voice heard and complete the survey now!
The park is currently being graded.
