Are you prepared for a major earthquake in our area? We all know it’s coming!
One thing the people in New Jersey and New York learned after Hurricane Sandy last fall is that it takes far longer than 3 days after a disaster before outside help comes. In the first critical hours after a disaster, the fire and police departments will be overwhelmed with emergency calls for service.
We as a community will be on our own and have to help each other. It could take a couple of weeks after a major disaster for food, water, power, gas, and phone service is restored.
Your Neighborhood Council is working with the Los Angeles Fire Department, to get as many of our residents as possible trained for major and minor emergencies through the LAFD Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) program.
CERT will teach you how to prepare for and give you the skills you will need after an earthquake, brush fire or terrorist act in our area.
We have a class scheduled to start on Monday, March 4, 2013 at 6:30 PM. It will be in the Multi-Purpose Room at the Porter Ranch Community School, 12450 Mason Avenue, (at Sesnon) Porter Ranch, CA 91326
All six classes will be about three hours long. They will be on consecutive Mondays at the same time in the same room, except there will be NO class on March 25th because the school will be on spring break. (This class is scheduled for: 3/4, 3/11, 3/18, 4/1, 4/8, 4/15.) CERT is provided free of charge within the city of Los Angeles to anyone 18 or over.
