Crime Update
May 2009, West of Tampa
Hello to everyone,
and thank you for taking time out of your
schedules to read my articles. I often will
review all reports for the area on a regular
basis to search for related crime trends and
possible alternatives to solve or reduce crime
activity. Our area crime of concern is burglary
and vandalism/hate incidents. The primary method
how suspects are entering residents are through
unlocked doors, windows, and ‘doggy doors’. I
ask that when you are not home, please try to
lock all doors and windows. Most criminals are
opportunist, and opportunists look for the easy
victim. Burglars will usually try to ‘case’ or
research the area initially, and try to get a
feel for the neighborhood they will victimize.
Once the burglar feels comfortable that he or
she can roam about because the area is inactive-
no one in the area observing, then they decide
to act. Reports have revealed that burglars look
for homes that are easy to enter to avoid loud
noises (glass breaking or smashing doors) and
having attention drawn. Crime tip: Keep an eye
on who is strolling through the neighborhood.
Let those strangers know that you see them and
you are not afraid to observe their actions.
It’s always a good idea to have a telephone in
your hand when the stranger/suspect looks in
your direction. Criminals do not want to be seen
or feel that they will be caught and will
usually leave and move on.
I have seen a spike of vandalism- graffiti
around the division, but what concerns me are
that some cases involve swastika or are hate
related type incidents regarding race. There is
an old saying, ‘Can’t you read the writing on
the walls?’ I believe that this saying is so
true. The more we tolerate this activity or what
is really behind it, we are allowing the hate to
spawn into violent activity. Please do not
confront the criminals in the act, but
immediately notify law enforcement to deal with
the suspects. After the act has been committed;
first photograph it and then clean or have it
painted out. If you leave it on the walls the
graffiti will grow and so will other criminal
acts. If you can’t paint it out yourself, a
great resource (no fee) to utilize is West
Valley Alliance Graffiti Removal (818) 885-8885.
Working together is how we reduce crime. Thank
you and be safe.

LAPD Crime
Update & Crime Tips…April 30, 2009
By Senior Lead Officer Danny Del Valle
Summer time is here and with the great weather,
party calls will be on the rise. The LAPD has
recently changed its enforcement policy
procedure law on loud music party violators. In
the past when a citizen would call police for
loud music at a party, police officers generally
could not immediately give a citation for the
loud music. The LAPD enforcement policy
procedure was that on the first response to
complained of music, officers are to gather the
violators’ information and give the violator a
warning. Officers would then have to call the
station Watch Commander, give notification and
place the violator on a Loud Music Party List.
If officers were to respond to a loud party a
second time, officers then had the option to
cite the violator. Party calls can get out of
control. I have responded to many parties for
loud music that started out with a 50-80 party
goers, and turns into 200-500.
The new policy
procedure allows officers to cite loud
party-music violators on the first police
contact. Officers will have the discretion to
cite or not. Loud music party calls sometimes
result in fights, shootings, stabbing, sexual
assaults, and vandalism.
The policy change
(for the better) will assist officers with being
able to crack down on parties before they get
out of control. Besides reducing the number of
calls that officers will have to respond to
before being able to cite, this will be a co$tly
incentive to the violator to stop the out of
control partying. Officers are not going to cite
all loud music party calls, but if officers feel
that the conduct will continue, or the party is
just too over bearing, expect a citation.
Remember to call Valley Communications at 1(877)
275-5273 for police to respond to loud music
calls. Please feel free to contact me at (818)
363-1726 with loud music party locations that
are continuous problems, so I can track and
monitor.

February 6, 2009 ALERT
Today at approximately 11:00 am there was an
attempted burglary/home invasion at 19822
Granada Circle. The perpetrators were two young
black males, they disregarded the Security
System, they smashed a window in the rear of the
home, where they gained entry. Confronted by the
occupant, they indicated they had a gun. The
owner / occupant of the residence wrestled with
the purps, and was able to confiscate a cell
phone, which he turned over to the police. Both
purps fled in a black Honda Civic.
Please, be on alert, and look for the suspect
Honda Civic with two young black males, or for
any suspicious activity.
Call LAPD Non-Emergency Dispatch 1-877-275-5273
to get investigative support from the police, or
dial 911 in case of Emergency.
We have no significant clusters in the basic car
area at this time even though the 14 residential
burglaries occured this month involved only 6
out of the 17 RDs that make up the basic car
area ( 3 each in RDs 1728 & 1729 and 2 each in
RDs 1705, 1714, 1735 & 1737).
RDs 1705 and 1716 are also high on the list for
BFMV activity for the month.
Look out for one another, remain vigilant and
report all suspicious activity to LAPD
non-emergency dispatch at 1-877-275-5273.
I welcome all requests for neighborhood watch
meetings within the basic area. Please plan
about a month ahead. Tuesdays and Thursdays
afford me the best possibility of being able to
attend.
Sincerely, SLO Del Core
